Although I was an insanely fussy eater as a child, I've grown into a food lover of note. I now love most things, will try almost anything, have a keen interest in cooking and an even keener interest in dining out. I don't know a great deal about the technical side of cooking and chopping and flavour combinations but I know what I love, what I am capable of creating and where to find the really good stuff on a night out. I don't budget when it comes to food and would even spend my last cent on a great meal. It may sound silly to some but life is short, far too short for bad food. We have to eat three to five times a day, every day, for all of our lives, how can we not make it as delicious as possible? After all, our last meal could very well be our last. On one hand that is depressing but on another, it's a challenge to ourselves, to make sure we are only eating great food. From a quick scramble of eggs at breakfast time to a lavish dinner at the end of a day, and everything in between. None of it should be average.
Here are a couple of random (but also not) things in my kitchen, that I am loving of late...
I adore Edamame. Willoughby's at the V&A introduced me to them and now I can't get enough. I usually buy the beans (sans pod) from Woolworths but recently received a gift from my brother's girlfriend, a bag of the real deal from Papa San at Takumi in Park Road, Gardens.
I thought this was really cool. My cousin Sarah gave this to me as a birthday gift at the beginning of the year. Four cheese boards with a selection of spreads. It makes me want to throw a cheese party. It also makes me think about presentation, which is important to me, even if I'm just preparing food for one.
I love this olive oil. I buy it from Wellness Warehouse at Lifestyle on Kloof. Next on my olive oil list: Mont Rouge from my friend Misha.
Today I discovered Popcorn genius from Woolworths: microwave popcorn that pops out into a box. How did I not know about this? So clever!
On the left is a delicious thing I discovered from The Mozzarella Well at the new V&A Market On The Wharf while stuffing my face with their unbelievable mozzarella rolls. And on the right, a most practical purchase that helps to ensure I don't drown my food when cooking.
As for dessert, these babies are totally delicious! They aren't available in all Woolworths stores unfortunately, and will probably be gone after Valentine's Day but for now, I'm taking advantage. I love both the milk chocolate and white chocolate variety.
If you have any edible essentials that you think I need to know about, pray do tell!
